Tourist Motel in Washington won’t be forced to close
The owner of Tourist Motel in Yakima, Washington is working to fix code violations so the motel can remain open. Broken windows and insulation around air-conditioning units have been fixed, but electrical work has yet to be completed. If that work is not done, the power could be cut off, which would effectively close the motel.
One of the motel’s two-story buildings will remain closed until extensive renovations can take care of the asbestos contamination. The building inspector said that the city can’t force the owner to renovate the building, but it can ensure that nuisance ordinances for abandoned buildings are met.
