Pennsylvania nonprofit gets $1.4 million job training grant
Heritage Community Initiatives of Braddock, Pennsylvania received a $1.4 million grant that will be used to train 120 workers for green jobs. The funding was made possible by the U.S. Department of Labor’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
According to Heritage CEO Bob Grom, the nonprofit will first determine what jobs are available and then train workers to perform the available jobs. Workers in Braddock will be trained in weatherizing old homes and building demolitions. These trainees will be certified in asbestos removal and lead abatement. Workers will also be trained in urban eco-restoration to remediate vacant lots for storm water management.
