Historic Texas church to come down once asbestos is gone
Oak Cliff Christian Church in Texas was founded in 1897. The congregation moved to a new location in 1962, and the property was recently sold to the Dallas school district last August to make way for tennis courts for the new Adamson High School. The church was never designated as a landmark, so there is no legal barrier to the demolition. Local preservationists, however, are calling on the school district to save the church structure.
Asbestos remediation was underway at the old church during the first week in January. The remediation supervisor expected the asbestos cleanup to take 17 days, after which time the demolition was expected to begin.
