U.S. Geological Survey facility to get $7 million makeover

The U.S. Geological Survey uses the Columbia Environmental Research Center in Missouri to research how water quality affects river science and aquatic organisms. Their facility is going to be getting a $7 million overhaul to the 1960s and 1970s buildings that make up the research center. Nine of the buildings will be consolidated into the new center to provide more room for equipment and instrumentation. The makeover will also include the renovation of 25 research ponds that need to replace their old asbestos piping. As long as the project proposal is approved, funding will be coming from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
