South Carolina family gets an Extreme Makeover
Amanda and Derrick Suggs from Loris, South Carolina were chosen by the TV show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to get their home completely redone. The work crews got started on January 12 for one week of major renovations.
The Suggs family was chosen because they had adopted Amanda’s younger siblings to keep them out of foster care and Derrick, a police officer, had helped save an infant who had stopped breathing. Their home was built back in 1953, a time when many construction materials contained the toxic substance asbestos. In addition to the cracked asbestos siding that needed to be dealt with, the home was also suffering from a rotting foundation, a leaky roof and outdated, exposed electrical wiring.
The Suggs family was sent on a week-long vacation while the crew got to work at designing a new home for this deserving family.
