Asbestos work could delay start of school in Illnois this fall
Washington County High School in Illinois may not start on time this fall due to a $4 million health and life safety project that must be completed over the summer. School is supposed to begin on Monday, August 23 for the 2010-11 school year, but the state-required asbestos abatement turned out to be far more extensive than the district had anticipated. Bid approvals for various parts of the project should be awarded by March, and some of the asbestos work will take place over April break. The project is going to push back the start of the school year if it runs over, and students may have to start classes mid-week.
