Columbus County Courthouse; renovate or start over?
The Columbus County Courthouse in North Carolina is a bit outdated. County officials are trying to decide whether the building should be renovated or if they should build a new courthouse. The existing building is almost a hundred years old. It has some structural damage, and it would require mold and asbestos remediation. There isn’t much room inside the courthouse, which creates a fire safety hazard. If the county does decide to build a new courthouse instead of renovating the old one, the original building will not be demolished. It has been registered as a historical site, and it will remain standing as a landmark.
