Brownfield redevelopment and other projects create and retain over 9,000 Michigan jobs
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) is supporting 18 projects that will create 6,804 new jobs and retain 2,263 existing jobs, generating over $672 million in new investment. MEDC is helping support the growth of 10 Michigan companies and backing eight brownfield redevelopment projects.
The 10 companies include Morley Companies Inc., Magna Electronics, US Farathane Corporation, SoundTech Inc., Wacker Chemical Corporation, Caparo Vehicle Components, Skilled Manufacturing Inc., Azure Dynamics Inc., GlobalWatt Inc. and BAE Systems.
The brownfield redevelopment projects range from: $231,193 to redevelop a historic building in downtown Cadillac to $3.5 million in brownfield tax credits to restore the historic Garden Theatre in midtown Detroit for its original use as a performance venue. Another project provides $1.9 million in brownfield tax credits for Delta Development LLC to redevelop a former newspaper building in Livonia, including abatement and disposal of lead and asbestos from the structure.
