Riverfront State Prison finally comes down

Riverfront State Prison in Camden, New Jersey is finally coming down. Demolition work began in mid-December by Brandenburg Industrial Service Co. of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The contractor was the low bidder for the project at $1.25 million. The demolition began by removing some of the exterior walls in order for asbestos abatement to begin. Demolition of the superstructure started during the week of Christmas. The project should be completed by early spring. The city hopes that razing the prison will help open up new economic development opportunities for revitalization of the area.
