Ohio approves $160K for environmental survey of old rubber factory
The Ohio Controlling Board approved $160,089 to fund a follow-up environmental assessment at the old White Rubber site in Ravenna. The assessment will include an asbestos survey, soil borings and well monitoring to figure out what sort of remediation will be required in order to prepare the site for redevelopment. The factory was home to Kent Rubber Products from 1920-1960 before it became White Rubber Corp., which closed in 2007. Additional funding has been secured to cover the demolition costs for a vacant manufacturing complex and another smaller building.
