Bids approved to prepare site of new South Carolina transit center
S.H. Carter Construction was the low bidder for the demolition and removal of two abandoned homes at the site of a planned transit center in Clemson, South Carolina. The City of Clemson will be paying Carter Construction $16,100 to demolish the buildings, and $2,500 will go to a separate company for asbestos removal. The low bids came in approximately $6,400 under budget.
The new transit center will be an environmentally friendly facility. It received federal stimulus money for its construction, which will include a solar energy system; energy-efficient heating, cooling and lighting; heat-retaining and reflecting windows; pervious surface parking; recycling and reclamation of storm water; use of native plants and more.
After the asbestos is removed and the two buildings are demolished, construction of the new facility could begin in the first quarter of 2010.
