Asbestos removal begins at Norton Museum
Renovations began at the Norton Museum at Snead State Community College in Boaz, Alabama in early December. The renovation project has a price tag of $1.5 million, and the first phase of the project is asbestos removal. Work crews have closed off a portion of the street in front of the museum to through traffic, but students and members of the community will still be able to use the parking lots around the library and cafeteria.
Norton Museum was originally built in the 1940s as a library, but it was turned into a museum after the Learning Resource Center was built. Due to maintenance needs, the museum is only opened by appointment.
After the asbestos is removed, renovations will add four classrooms, office space, restrooms, a veranda and make the second floor of the building handicap accessible.
