100-year-old houses to become parking lot in Southern California

Two 100-year-old houses in Riverside, California will be demolished after the deadline passed for the office of education to find buyers for them; only one of the houses had a single offer that ended up being withdrawn. The properties will be turned into a parking lot after they come down.

The Old Riverside Foundation stripped the homes of hardware, claw-foot bathtubs, doors, windows, siding and other fixtures that can be used to restore other historic homes. The office of education now has to apply for a demolition permit and have both lead and asbestos abated before the houses can be demolished. Demolition work will likely take place in the spring.
