Source of University of Wisconsin asbestos contamination found

The University of Wyoming had been cited for asbestos violations by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality back in September. The university spent $5,100 to clean up the asbestos contamination back in June, hiring Safe Air of Cheyenne to complete the abatement work.

Now it has come to light that the asbestos contamination came from two small metal buildings bought and removed from campus by Mason Skiles of Laramie for $368 back in March. A sales document from the purchase specified that Skiles had agreed to clean up any debris that was associated with the building removal, but he did not do so. The buildings were two of six buildings sold by the university this year to make room for the $20 million Berry Center for Natural History and Conservation. The spokeswoman for the university stated that they do not intend to pursue legal action against Skiles or try to otherwise recover the expense.
