Unexpected asbestos remediation adds $150,000 to Tri River Transit project
The new Tri River Transit building in Hamlin, West Virginia has run into an unexpected snag. Neither the Phase I nor Phase II environmental studies of the business park site had uncovered the asbestos shingles that were found buried at the site. The interim director of the Lincoln Economic Development Authority (EDA) was unsure as to whether or not core drilling was a required part of the environmental study, but another source said that E.L. Robinson Engineering did indeed drill at the park site, but they must have missed the exact location. Tri River Transit secured a $150,000 loan from the county commission in order to proceed with the remediation work, as the toxic substance must be removed by certified asbestos professionals, and they could not use federal funding to pay for the abatement work.
