Former Ohio paper mill to get $1.6 million grant for cleanup

Middletown, Ohio is receiving a $1.6 million grant from the Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund to help clean up the former Sutphin Wrenn Union Paper Mill. The grant money will be used to complete asbestos abatement, cleanup of contaminated soil, building demolition and groundwater monitoring. Cleaning up the property is one way to not only improve the environment but to create good local jobs, which are so important in this economy.

Once the cleanup is complete, the city hopes to negotiate a commercial project that would create over 200 jobs with an annual payroll of approximately $8 million. The cleanup project must be completed before new construction, scheduled to begin by the end of 2011.
