Fines issued, cleanup ordered for illegal dumpers
Two companies – Hamp’s Enterprises, LLC and Hamp’s Construction, LLC – and one man, Charlie Hampton, were fined a total of $40,000 after pleading guilty to illegal dumping in a wetland area in New Orleans East. They were also ordered to clean up the dump site. Their trucks were discovered illegally dumping construction debris in a vacant lot by agents from the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Criminal Investigation Division.
Hampton had been arrested in April 2009 for allegedly submitting false inspection certifications related to Asbestos Notification of Demolitions and Renovation Forms for work in the New Orleans area; none of the mandatory inspections had actually occurred.
