Building inspector charged with taking bribes after finding asbestos
Michael Cease, an inspector for the Department of Environment in Chicago, Illinois, has been charged with taking over $1,000 in bribes from a property owner. Chicago’s inspector general and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) discovered that Cease had told a property owner that asbestos had been found in one of his buildings in September. Cease then asked for $600 in exchange for falsified documents stating that the asbestos had been removed and $550 to avoid a city violation.
Cease was released on a $20,000 bond and was due back in court on November 4.
