Minnesota National Guard armory to close for one year for renovations
For the next year, the Red Wing National Guard Armory in Minnesota will be closed for a $1.5 million renovation project. Over 60 soldiers have to be displaced as work crews build a women’s locker room, remove asbestos, replace the boiler and make other upgrades. The building will be closed to the public, though it has become a popular venue for banquets, wedding, fundraisers and community events.
The soldiers of the 434th Chemical Company will join their counterparts in Northfield while the renovations are underway. The renovations are being paid for with both state and federal dollars. Officials hope they will have a design contract by next year so they can bid the project out by next summer.
