Civil War era church needs to raise money to fix asbestos floor tiles, leaky roof

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin was built in 1869. Today, it is still a small, community-friendly parish that has been struggling to maintain its historic site. Several Civil War soldiers are buried in its cemetery.

The church had developed a leaky roof, and there is asbestos in its vinyl flooring. Reverend Dr. John T. Allen and the church council initiated a capital campaign to make the church a healthier space in the community. These problems were addressed through recent renovations, but funding is still needed to cover the costs of the renovations.

Parishioners have already raised over $23,000 in the Raising the Roof campaign. The church hopes to raise additional funding from neighbors and local businesses. St. Marks celebrated its re-opening with its new roof and new floor on October 24. Anyone interested in contributing to the capital campaign can call the church directly.
