Mesothelioma research funding applications increased dramatically in 2009

The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation released information indicating that the number of applications to fund mesothelioma research has increased dramatically since 2000. In 2000, only seven applications were filed to obtain funding for malignant mesothelioma research, but 56 applications were filed in 2009 – eight times the number of applications that were filed nine years ago.

About $6 million has been awarded by the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation since its inception. It was set up because of the lack of funding and support for research about mesothelioma, a rare but serious form of cancer caused by asbestos exposure.
