State budget allows Wilcox Tech renovations to begin

Wilcox Technical High School in Meriden, Connecticut had to put its renovations on hold this summer due to the state budget impasse. Now that the General Assembly has passed a budget implementer bill, Wilcox Tech will be receiving the $60.2 million it needs to complete the second phase of its renovation project. The first phase of the renovations involved asbestos removal. The second phase will now add additional classrooms, new science labs and equipment and change the building’s façade.

During the renovation process, 14 portable classrooms will be placed in the front parking lot. Faculty and students will move into the portable classrooms in November so construction can begin in January. The project will take about three years to complete.
