Family with skunk infestation also had asbestos problem

The McCullough family of Sheffield Lake, Ohio had an unfortunate infestation of skunks in their $144,000 home. The skunks had moved in under the house and would make themselves known whenever the family’s pets scratched the floor or the furnace turned on. A professional trapper was able to lure the skunks out with marshmallows and hot dogs.

When carpenters removed the floor to repair the damage done by the skunks, the nest was not the only problem they discovered. Asbestos and rotten wood were also lurking beneath the floor, and the necessary renovations were so extensive that the family had to move into a rental home while the work was taking place. The family had to pay $70,000 for structural repairs, $25,000 of which was out of pocket, and the rest covered by insurance.
