Cornerstone Training has many students taking asbestos abatement classes
Cornerstone Training in Rochester, New York has seen an increase in the number of students signing up for its asbestos abatement classes. The Midtown Plaza asbestos removal project has created a great demand for certified asbestos removal professionals, and Cornerstone has trained approximately 100 people in the last year for the job.
A number of people who take the 32-hour asbestos abatement class are unemployed. A career in asbestos abatement is attractive because—when performed using all appropriate safeguards—it’s safe, it’s not difficult, and it comes with decent pay. It is considered a great job opportunity for young people, although the work is not always steady.
There are about 100 workers on the Midtown Plaza site already, and 250 will be needed in the long run. Though this is the largest asbestos abatement project in the area, there will be many other renovation and demolition projects available in the future. Private projects can pay $13-$17 an hour, while public projects can pay $25-$35 an hour. People who are interested in working on the Midtown Plaza project have to go through the Local 435.
