Pennsylvania contractors find more asbestos in high school renovation project
Renovations at Mars Area High School in Pennsylvania keep getting more and more complicated. The school board recently had to approve nearly $85,000 in change orders for the $12.5 million project. One of the change orders was for additional asbestos removal at a cost of $23,205. The asbestos was found in the floor of the administrative office area. Abatement will take place over the next extended school vacation. Another change order included $6,315 to clean up storm sewer lines that had never been cleaned before.
The renovation project had a contingency fund originally containing $485,935. With all of the change orders that have been approved so far, $327,955 remains. Renovations are running ahead of schedule.
