Idaho contractor fined by EPA over asbestos violations

Precision Demolition and Abatement of Boise, Idaho has been fined by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for violating the federal Clean Air Act. During an EPA inspection of the contractor’s renovation project in October 2008, officials discovered that Precision had failed to inform the EPA of when the renovation work would take place, failed to keep the asbestos wet to prevent the fibers from becoming airborne and failed to prevent asbestos from getting into the air outside. When asbestos fibers are inhaled, they can cause serious illnesses like mesothelioma and asbestos-related lung cancer.
