Cheyney University receives $300,000 for repairs and preservation
As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Cheyney University in Pennsylvania received a $300,000 award for repairs and preservation of campus buildings that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Cheyney University project is one of 20 such projects to receive historic preservation grants for Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and the buildings were selected based on architectural and historical significance as well as the need for essential repairs.
The buildings at Cheyney University require a variety of repairs for leaking roofs, water damage, termite damage, wood-rot damage, asbestos removal, lead paint removal, masonry work, HVAC systems, electrical rewiring and handicap accessibility.
