Brownfield course grads take part in 2009 Brita Climate Ride

Alison Caputo and Emily Timchak of New York City signed up for Workplace Inc.’s brownfield course this past spring, sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency and the New York State Department of Environmental Protection. The two women completed the eight-week course that provided them with certification in both lead abatement and asbestos removal.

Now that they are eligible for better green jobs since completing the brownfield training, the two women decided to take part in the 2009 Brita Climate Ride. They will be riding bicycles to in the five-day event to raise awareness about climate change and renewable energy sources. In order to raise the $2,400 entry fee, the women have accepted donations from companies like Environmental Management Company, Green Star Energy, Subway, and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Cranbury Elementary School has been helping with a can-and-bottle collection drive, as well.
