Texas A&M student center expansion project underway
While classes were out for the summer, progress was made on the Memorial Student Center (MSC) Renovation and Expansion Project at Texas A&M. Vaughn Construction took over the project on August 17, requiring students to temporarily forget about traditions like removing their hats when entering the building and not walking on the grass. Hard hats will be required in order to enter the building, which will not be open to students again until 2012.
Asbestos abatement is currently taking place, as the toxic material was in common use when the MSC was originally built in the 1950s, and more was added during renovations that took place in the 1970s. The asbestos must be removed before demolition can begin. Pictures of the renovation project’s progress will be available online, and students are asked to make the best of the temporary inconvenience.
