New York State grants include funds for asbestos removal training, other projects
The Emerging and Transitional Worker Grant program is providing $1.6 million in state funding to four groups in Syracuse, New York. Funding will help prepare 800 low-income workers for jobs that are in-demand. The grant money comes from federal stimulus funds, which will provide $15 million to train over 6,000 workers across New York State.
A $438,358 grant to the Westcott Community Center will provide job training for 250 youth and adults in asbestos removal, green construction and maintenance, entry-level health care, office technology and GED preparation.
A $404,816 grant to the Manufacturers Association of Central New York Callahan Management Training Center Inc. will provide job training for 300 workers from disadvantaged populations in a nationally certified manufacturing skills program.
A $440,751 grant to the Iroquois Healthcare Association will provide 120 workers with GED preparation, career planning, work readiness skills and occupational skills.
A $317,379 grant to the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Onondaga County will provide job training for 120 veterans in a career preparation program for environmentally-friendly green jobs.
