Asbestos-concrete sewer lines replaced in Illinois town

The City of Galena, Illinois has been undergoing a reconstruction project. Mike & Nick Sproule Construction installed new water mains and service lines in the 800-foot project, replacing the old three-quarter-inch diameter pipe that had previously served as an extension of the water main. The old iron water mains were replaced with new high-density PVC mains.

New sanitary sewer lines were also installed to all residences in the project area, replacing the old sewer lines that had been made of asbestos-concrete and were showing signs of deterioration.

Now that the work has been completed on the water and sanitary sewer lines about three weeks ahead of schedule, MNS Construction has moved on to work on the storm sewer system, replacing the 24-inch main with new 30-inch pipe. After that, new curbs and gutters will be installed, new sidewalks will be poured, gravel subbase will be put in, and asphalt pavement will complete the job.
