Alaskan contractor to pay fine and do community service for asbestos violations

Coldfoot Environmental Services Inc. of Anchorage, Alaska has been fined $5,100 by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for asbestos violations, and has agreed to perform a community service project as well. The contractor failed to provide proper asbestos-related notifications to EPA inspectors who visited three of their demolition sites in Valdez and Juneau. The EPA requires contractors to provide timely and accurate information to insure that they are following federal asbestos regulations. Coldfoot will be removing asbestos insulation from piping and a boiler in a building owned by Out North, a nonprofit community arts group – a project valued at nearly $15,000.
