Charity organization cleans for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy

Cleaning for a Reason is a non-profit organization in Flower Mound, Texas that cleans homes for women undergoing cancer treatment who are physically or financially unable to clean house otherwise. Cleaning for a Reason was founded in 2006 by Debbie Sardone, owner of Buckets and Bows Maid Service for 27 years. Sardone had been speaking at a conference about an internal policy her company had where they would provide cleaning services at cost or free for women who indicated that they were undergoing chemotherapy. Other maid service owners had expressed interest in this effort, but had questions about cost impact and how to screen people. She filed to become a 501(c)3 organization upon her return home from the conference.

Women with cancer can contact Cleaning for a Reason to help them keep their homes clean. The organization locates the member cleaning service that is closest to the client. Cleaning services are provided once a month for four months, free of charge. Since its inception, Cleaning for a Reason has provided $350,000 in free cleaning services to over 9,000 people, and reached out to 480 cleaning service companies across the United States and Canada. Sardone hopes to obtain her 500th member cleaning service in October.

The Women Helping Others (WHO) Foundation awarded Cleaning for a Reason a $10,000 grant, which will be very helpful for the non-profit group.
