Florida landfill raises asbestos disposal charges and other landfill fees
Businesses and residents of Polk County, Florida will be paying more for waste disposal, an average 10 percent increase. The minimum charge for dumping garbage at the landfill is doubling from $5 to $10. Asbestos waste disposal will increase from $135 to $150 per ton. Household garbage, construction and demolition materials will jump from $34.50 to $37.95 per ton for disposal. Yard waste disposal is increasing from $20 to $22 per ton. Fees for the disposal of tires, white goods and scrap metal will also increase.
Polk County will also be increasing the fees for false alarms, charged to homeowners and business owners with faulty security systems that go off repeatedly for no reason. Two false alarms will result in no fine, but the third false alarm will result in a fine of $100, a fee that increases incrementally until the eighth false alarm, after which time each one will result in a $500 fee.
