Homeless shelter renovated with $650,000 in donations
Major renovations have been taking place at the St. John homeless shelter in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Catholic Diocese of Green Bay needed donations from the community, local businesses and other churches to complete the $650,000 project. Money has come in from all across Wisconsin and out of state.
The renovations have replaced the shelter’s windows, repaired the roof, worked on the heating system and fixed both the plumbing and the entire electrical system. Asbestos had to be removed, and a fire suppression system was installed. One company called church officials to offer its employees and equipment because it couldn’t afford a cash donation. The work should be finished by the time the shelter opens on November 1.
