BDSI receives US patent for Onsolis and BEMA drug delivery platform
BioDelivery Sciences International (BDSI) received a new United States patent to provide additional patent exclusivity for the cancer pain drug Onsolis and the company’s BEMA drug delivery technology platform for at least the next 10 years. BDSI is planning to request a further extension on the patent protection until 2020.
Onsolis was recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of breakthrough pain in adult cancer patients who are already receiving opioid therapy for their persistent cancer pain. Onsolis should be available for sale in the US in early fourth quarter of 2009.
