Texas university dormitory implosion delayed on account of asbestos
San Angelo University in Texas has put a hold on the implosion of University Hall. The former residence hall was supposed to be demolished on September 20, but additional asbestos was discovered in the building that has to be removed first. A new demolition date has been set for October. Alvin New, candidate for mayor, had the winning bid of $10,500 at a fundraising banquet that will allow him to push the button for the implosion.
University Hall was opened in 1968 and closed its doors in 2004 due to increasing maintenance costs. Renovation and conversion were deemed too expensive, so demolition was the best option.
