Asbestos removal completed at SUNY New Paltz just in time for fall semester
Summer renovations at the State University of New York at New Paltz included an asbestos removal project. SUNY New Paltz fired the original contractor, Milestone Environmental of New Jersey, when it was cited in July by the New York State Department of Labor in July for violations of asbestos removal guidelines at two student residences.
These are not the first asbestos violations at SUNY-New Paltz—which has received several citations in recent years. See related story. The company had been cited for a similar violation in June at another student residence. And students have expressed concern before about whether asbestos work in the dorms was being conducted safely. See related story.
The college hired Turbo Group to complete the asbestos removal at the student residences, as the contractor was also replacing the roofs on those buildings. The asbestos removal was completed in time for the arrival of students for the fall semester on August 20.
