Former Kentucky manufacturing plant site cost $400k for asbestos removal

Over 2,400 tons of asbestos debris was removed from the former Deena Products manufacturing plant in Arlington, Kentucky. The electroplating factory manufactured lamp fixtures from 1949 until 1987. The asbestos abatement project cost $400,000 and was completed by Chase Environmental as emergency work under a contract from the Energy and Environment Cabinet’s Division of Waste Management to prevent further asbestos contamination.

Now that the asbestos debris has been removed, thousands of tons of other debris still remain. Disposal of the remaining debris is the responsibility of the property owner. The asbestos contamination was discovered when parts of the factory were being torn down. The asbestos removal was paid for by the Kentucky Hazardous Waste Management Fund.
