Ohio to distribute $1.8 million in brownfield stimulus funds
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has given the Ohio Department of Development $1.8 million in federal stimulus money to distribute as part of the Brownfield Revolving Loan Fund Program. Grants from this program will be used to create or retain jobs to clean up properties where environmental contamination is preventing the sites from being redeveloped.
The Ohio Department of Development will begin distributing the federal grant money in November, continuing over the next two years. The Urban Development Division has already provided a list of potential projects that have been registered at Ohio’s stimulus Web site. Special emphasis will be placed on historic buildings that require asbestos abatement. The interim director of the Development Department stated that these funds not only help clean up contaminated sites and improve community health and quality of life, but they also create good jobs for Ohio citizens.
