Asbestos found in Wyoming school adds $400k more to renovation costs

The Natrona County School Board recently approved a cost overrun of approximately $400,000 to remodel the vocational building at Natrona County High School. When construction originally began, asbestos was found to be very pervasive – permeating drywall mud, adhesives, electrical and plumbing systems and other components of the building. Everything had to be stripped down to the masonry blocks in order to remove the asbestos.

Asbestos was commonly used in the construction of public buildings until the 1980s. Asbestos is a known carcinogen that can cause serious illnesses like mesothelioma, asbestosis or asbestos-related lung cancer.
