St. Louis Community College gets federal stimulus money to train students in brownfield cleanup
St. Louis Community College in Missouri has been selected by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to receive $500,000 in federal stimulus money to train students in the methods used to clean up brownfield sites. The half million dollars in funding will allow the college to train 120 students, graduate 102 students and provide job placement for at least 77 students in environmental technician jobs and other green jobs.
Students in the training program will complete 240 hours of hazardous material training and remediation techniques. Graduates of the program will earn training certifications in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety, hazardous waste operations and emergency response, weatherization, mold remediation, ecosystem restoration and lead and asbestos abatement.
