Virginia cemetery worker dies of mesothelioma

Oliver Tate, the 87-year-old caretaker of Fairview Cemetery in Staunton, Virginia, died of mesothelioma on July 30. He had been diagnosed with mesothelioma, a rare but serious form of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos, three years ago. Tate helped keep the cemetery neat, helped family members locate the tombstones of lost relatives and began documenting who was buried there, as many graves had no headstones. His grandson said that the family will carry on his legacy.
