ADAO announces RN as 2010 conference honoree
The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) has announced that June Breit, a registered nurse who was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma in 2002, will be the Alan Reinstein Memorial Award Honoree at the 6th Annual ADAO Asbestos Disease Awareness Conference in Chicago, Illinois from April 9-11, 2010.
After her pleural mesothelioma diagnosis in 2002, June underwent invasive extrapleural pneumonectomy (EPP) surgery. Since then, she has become a strong advocate for mesothelioma patients. She says her 30 years as a registered nurse specializing in community health led her to see mesothelioma as a public health crisis. Her advocacy has been instrumental to raising awareness in Pennsylvania, where she met with the governor to set up the annual recognition of Mesothelioma Awareness Day in her home state.
June’s political and educational efforts have not been concentrated only in Pennsylvania, but on the national level as well. She continues to fight for a ban on asbestos and funding for increased treatment options.
