Grant money to provide care for asbestos-related diseases in Libby, Montana

Following the declaration of a public health emergency in Libby, Montana, the Health and Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has awarded the Lincoln County Health Department a single source award of up to $6 million through the Rural Health Care Services Outreach Grant Program and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) screening grant program authority.

Up to $6 million in grant money will be used to provide care management to Lincoln County, Montana residents who have asbestos-related diseases like mesothelioma. Funds will support the coordination and payment of care through clinics, hospitals, specialty care providers and other treatment providers of this population. The grant money will be provided over a two-year period from August 1, 2009 through July 31, 2011. Funding for the second year will be dependent on several factors, including grantee satisfactory performance.
