Welsh rock star’s family appeals for help concerning asbestos death
Kenneth Barratt, brother of rock star Shakin’ Stevens, died of mesothelioma in 2002. His family has begun an appeal for evidence that relates to his death. Barratt worked in Cardiff for the steel company Guest Keen Nettlefold cleaning and maintaining the furnaces from 1946 until 1992, and his daughter Jane Green hopes to find other former employees who knew about his asbestos exposure or were exposed to asbestos themselves.
Green said that, since GKN was such a major employer in Cardiff, there should be many people who were exposed to the same toxic substance that caused her father’s mesothelioma. She said that he came into close contact with asbestos lagging in the course of his duties, and that it was wrong that he had to die because of someone else’s negligence.
