EPA begins cleanup of Massachusetts park site

In Salem, Massachusetts, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is supervising the cleanup of asbestos from a new park site. Park construction had been stopped in March when asbestos was discovered in the soil. Asbestos abatement professionals are now performing the cleanup in protective suits and masks. As a precautionary measure, plastic sheeting has been placed over the park, and air tests conducted by an environmental engineer have concluded that the site is safe for anyone in the immediate area.

The cleanup should take approximately four weeks to complete. After this time, construction will resume.
