Bavituximab cancer trial includes mesothelioma patients
Patient enrollment has concluded in Peregrine’s US Phase I clinical trial to evaluate bavituximab as monotherapy for patients who have advanced refractory cancers. The study aims to determine the safety and tolerability of the drug in patients who are in advanced stages of cancer, to characterize its pharmacokinetic profile, and to identify the maximum tolerated dose, the maximum effective dose and dose-limiting toxicities.
So far, a maximum tolerated dose has not been reached even at the highest dosage level planned.
Additional bavituximab cancer trials are being designed based on the findings of this study, which included patients in advanced stages of breast cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, prostate cancer, head and neck cancers, melanoma and mesothelioma.
