Mesothelioma can strike anyone—including the family of “Hannah Montana”
The new Hannah Montana movie makes a point of how far the pop star persona is from the family roots teen sensation Miley Cyrus shares with her famous father Billy Ray Cyrus. Miley’s grandfather was a steelworker who became a union leader and state legislator in Kentucky; he died of mesothelioma, an aggressive cancer caused by exposure to asbestos.
Mesothelioma is a relatively rare cancer—about 3,000 cases are diagnosed each year in the United States—that is directly related to asbestos exposure. It can result from even relatively light or brief periods of exposure. For that reason, mesothelioma can strike anyone. It has caused the death of athletes and movie stars, generals and politicians.
