Mass. woman skips court date for faking asbestos training

Albania DeLeon, owner of an asbestos training school in Methuen, Massachusetts, failed to appear for sentencing in federal court in Boston after being convicted of falsifying asbestos training certificates. An arrest warrant has been issued.

DeLeon’s company, Environmental Compliance Training, was the largest asbestos training school in Massachusetts. DeLeon was convicted of selling phony asbestos training certificates to asbestos removal workers, illegal immigrants she placed as temporary workers. She also paid these workers under the table and failed to withhold taxes, totaling more than $1 million in taxes and insurance. DeLeon was found guilty on 28 charges.

She faces up to 230 years in prison and a possible $250,000 fine.
